I always ask people to bring a bottle of wine and assign bread, cheese/nuts, kid friendly food (if they have small picky kids) or dessert. I like to ask people to bring things that they don’t have to make and can just pick up on their way over, as I think most people appreciate that. However with our serious foodie friends we tell them the menu and then always say surprise us. The more people I invite the less complicated the menu gets. In the summer grilled meat and veggies and in winter a big pot of soup are our staples. And just remember, nobody is there for the food, they are there for the company.

I find that I disappoint myself when I have friends over because I don’t know what to prepare and what to put out on the table.
