It is hard to balance everything all at once especially when work needs more attention or when your child is sick. What people really need is time and reflection for the mind to organize everything without forgetting other things that needs to be taken care of. Exercise and focus on what needs to be done and never forget to rest or spend time with family.

Kaitlen – Mental health is such a challenge, right? I really do take it so seriously. Bless my heart. 🙂

Susy – I relate so much to what you’ve said. I started Zumba classes a few years ago because I wanted the mental challenge of learning dance while also moving my body. It’s amazing. When I started riding horses, I realized that the ultimate exercise, for me, is a simultaneous mental and physical challenge. We should start Dance Fit for Mental Health. 🙂 Also, your point about our security zones being our mental prisons is so relevant and hits home. It’s always a fine line, right? Thanks for such a lovely comment. Amy

Gillian – What a lovely comment. Being mentally engaged has been a true life changer for me.

Eva – I think the answer may be a cabin in the woods? Love that post on your blog. That book is downright charming. Amy

#insolidarity I understand the overwhelm and think all the time about that movie: What About Bob? Baby steps. 🙂

The part that I like most is this “…. when I looked in the mirror I saw something much more troubling of the axillary or frizzy hair: I saw sadness, fatigue and apathy ……”
I lived the same situation a couple of years ago, so reading your post was a strong reminder of what happened to me and what I did to get out of that situation.
I remember that I had started not wanting to go out and not want to meet people … I was fine in my security zone but realized that the same security zone was becoming a mental prison.
The most useful thing I did was to sign up for a Latin American dance class. In one shot I had to face physical exercise, unknown people and engage my brain to learn dance figures. Since then my life has completely changed.

I work on mindfulness constantly, because our norms are to multi-task all day long. The result is that I’m distracted or overwhelmed, so focusing on one thing at a time has really made a difference.

I’ve been feeling overwhelmed these days so will take your advice to heart, especially the practice of mindfulness. Being present in the now. Taking things step by step.
