Interesting how it was written before Covid and workers all over the world experienced mass burnout. I’m 38 and a week into a 1 year career sabbatical and didn’t realise how much anxiety the question “so what are you going to do today” could produce! The expectation from the world (and myself if I’m honest ) to constantly produce is enormous. Thank you for writing this when you did !

I feel guilty for not pushing to work and overwhelmed in grief for my loss. I am stumbling thru new widowhood and with all my kids just moving out – an empty nester at 50. All thought I love what I do/produce – I feel guilty not getting right back to it – to keep my thriving business – to make a living – to make a life.
This probably means different things to other artists- but to me – I feel like you were sent to me to give me permission to catch my breath and take the time to figure out ‘what now’. So again – I thank you.

I raised 2 sons and worked probably 50+ hours every week as a social worker and counselor until I recently retired. I am driven and it has been quite a different door I have opened. I have become more self-centered in a positive way. Exploring hobbies like bass fishing, painting, raising a high energy puppy, yoga, etc. I feel best when I do something creative whether its productive or not. I have also learned to not feel too guilty when I don’t accomplish much during the day. I’m still trying to figure this new journey out bu I think I’m doing ok so far. Anyway, your story made me feel good about myself. Good luck to you and just breathe and give yourself a hug.
