I have actually sent care packages several times during the last few months. A great magazine, delicious tea, some locally-made soap/lip balm/lotion and of course a bit of chocolate for good measure.

My father used to send me care packages, he also sent them to my mother and her friensa. They would be filled with things like coffee, peanut butter, papertowels, pot holders or kitchen towels, sheet sets, and all kinds of wacky things, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, cookies, snacks, etc. He’s been gone over 20yrs now, and that’s the thing I remember most, and miss. It was always a fun surprise to receive a package. It was almost a grab bag of fun. Even my friends looked forward to seeing what was in the box. And they still talk about it and tell me they miss it too.
It reminded us, he was thinking of us and that he cared. Nothing makes a bad day better than a surprise care package.

Thank you for this. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought, “I SO wish I was one of those thoughtful, conscientious friends who always knows what to send when SOMEthing is needed!” I always rationalize that, like, the only people who do these gestures are stay-at-home moms who live five minutes away from the recipient! It’s not true, though, and I know it. This list proves that it’s not that hard! Thank you for giving me ideas – easy, DOable ideas! – when, yes, the thought counts, but… the execution is clutch!

I’ve become a pro at sending care packages to my son at college. Since this year he has to stay on campus until he’s home for Winter break, he’ll miss his birthday at home. I’m going to send cake mix, frosting, candles, cupcake liners so he and his roomies can make something fun. His care package will also include a few gift cards for local food delivery (like pizza, subs, etc) to campus, his favorite treats, and his gifts. I send a care package every few weeks, even if it’s just sample packs of different snacks/cereals or office supplies needed for his class. I always send something fun like a mini lego set or character, too.

These are all such great ideas! I love giving gifts, but I’m a chronic overthinker which makes for a hard time when actually deciding on WHAT to give. But these are all so simple and lovely. Definitely going to be sending some care packages soon. 🙂
