UGH SAME. And the ones who try to be “authentic” sound fake AF too. We need more Instagrams like @britneyspears and @beverleymitchell. Those two do not give AF!

And I literally scream every time someone says “I did a thing”.

Can you cite the source where it’s proven that women who post about feminine things are harassed less? Thank you!

This is such an interesting article, and I really appreciate it. Honestly, I try and see Instagram is a place of celebration, where people show off the good and the fun, as a way to escape reality. It helps keep my mental sanity!

I am going to sound like an old here but I really miss the days of yre, when everyone had a blogspot and it could be rambly and off topic, just because that was what you were interested in that day without trying to sound serious and profound and professional-journalist about it.
This post is also the straw that broke my back and I will no longer be checking in here anymore. I’m s tired of blogs trying to sound like magazines.

I have a few friends on social media who post frequently about “real” topics (body image struggles, reminders that their relationship isn’t perfect, etc.). I’ve gotta be honest…. this feels weird and often inauthentic to me too. It seems like a ploy to get a pat on the back for how brave they are to share these things that everyone goes through. That’s the impression I get from the comments and number of likes on these posts at least. (like is everybody really THAT shocked that your marriage isn’t perfection? Not sure why we would need monthly reminders) I’m convinced that this opinion of mine is partly truth and partly me being a cynic.
I agree that there’s room for more truth on social media, but I also struggle to come up with how that would look.

Great article! It’s funny because I feel like the internet does reward people for authenticity, especially when being honest a real about the world. I do think you can only and should only reveal and talk about things you’re comfortable with though. And you’re right, you can use the internet to create a persona, and still be real/authentic in everyday life.
