You know what, I just realized that my worst critic actually isn't me but some of my friends... They have belittled me the same way your younger self belittled you. And just as you said, I thanked them for it and told myself they were "making me better" by bringing out flaws in me. Even when they called me bitter, and I had to google it because I had no idea what they meant, I took it as gospel even though the word didn't resemble my image of myself at all... My best friend recently brought to my attention that I am really, really hard on myself. No one’s ever said that to me before. She is the one person I can truly open up to and show all the ugly parts without fear of judgment or shame, so perhaps she’s been the only one (other than myself) to get a glimpse of what’s really going on inside. It shocked me to hear her say that, because I kinda thought that was normal – to beat yourself up like that. After all, I’m the one in charge of my personal growth and becoming a better person.

Anyways, before this turns into a mini-memoir, thank you for writing this. It reinforces that this is something I need to work on. <3

Such a great message for millennials. I am in my 50’s and have had to go back through my journals and tear up all the negativity I found in them from my 20’s and 30’s. Thank you for your honesty!
