Maybe I’ll try it next year once I’m already mentally prepared for it. Haha! Or maybe I’d try going for a six months than a year just to test things. 🙂

I’m a minimalist thru-and-thru. And now have integrated that life choice with my practice of medicine and coaching.

Lovely reading this thoughtful interview rich in powerful, delightful insights!

But I wasn’t a teenager when all this fast fashion was around so I can safely say that I didn’t buy cheap and throw things out.
I don’t think I could stop shopping for a year though, but I do agree with buying quality so you have to buy less often. Better for the environment!

I think I’ve been a little too consuming lately, so I’d like to dial it back in the summer. Money is better spent on travel!

I’m not sure how it happened, but I missed the Forever 21 craze and skipped to having fewer, nicer stuff. I never got the appeal of having a shirt that you wore once then donated – it seemed like such a waste. Glad she’s been converted 🙂

I allowed myself to replace a couple basics (IE white tee) and worn out undergarments, but that was it. I also struggled with my style afterwards, but am much more conscience about my purchases now. I’m often asking myself: “Will I still want to wear this in X years?” If it’s no, then I don’t buy the item.

I did the same thing, with a measly student work/study “income”: go to Marshall’s, Burlington, Old Navy, or Forever 21 for a going-out top or shoes. Sometimes even buying a cheap sweatshirt that was intended to be left at a party, so as to avoid having to wear coat to a party (heaven forbid). It was comforting and it was how I liked to spend time to myself on a Friday afternoon, after class. I felt so excited to be living in a city on my own, and wanted to spend the money that I made on whatever I wanted. But it was such a waste. I never bought anything of quality and I don’t know where most of it went (borrowed by roommates & Goodwill, I’m assuming). I’m much more conscious now, but I’m grateful for learning those valuable lessons.

I do have to agree with her that public accountability really, really helps, no matter what your goal is. I have a mad urge to go without shopping now, but I think I’d need more mental prep time!
